Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup
Review Summary
- Overpriced and potentially deceptive quoting: Customers reported high quotes, inflated labor costs, and unnecessary charges (e.g., scoping fees).
- Poor scheduling and communication: Missed appointments, lack of communication about delays, and incorrect contact information were common complaints.
- Unprofessional behavior: Rude customer service representatives and technicians, failure to complete jobs, and lack of follow-through were cited.
- Ineffective repairs: Multiple customers reported that the initial fix failed, requiring additional (and costly) services.
- Questionable diagnostic practices: Some customers felt they were being pressured into unnecessary and expensive repairs.
- Inconsistent service quality: While some found the plumbing service adequate, the water restoration department was unreliable.

This place is a scam. I called asking for nothing more than a quote to replace some pipe. While I was on the call I asked if there would be a service charge for them to come out. I then clarified twice that all I wanted was the quote and she ensured me there would be no service charge. When they got here they told me I had to scope the pipe for $450 and when I refused they then charged me an $80 service charge for having to come out. On top of that the pipe that I needed replaced is roughly 4 feet long and the working area had been cleared for easy access. I got a quote from another plumber stating it shouldn’t take more than 4 hours to replace. The quote was for over $2100, meaning that labor here alone would be $500/hour.

Made an online appointment on Wednesday for the following Monday afternoon because we were out of town till then. No call but they showed up on Thursday- our Ring notified us. Called and told them the appointment was for Monday. Called Monday morning to confirm. They will be there between 2-4 pm. Called at 5 pm and were advised that they tried calling but no answer so they skipped us. The number they had wasn’t even close to ours and certainly not something we would have mistyped. They advised a tech would call as soon as possible. This was to snake the sewer drain so we were unable to use any water in our house the whole time. Called back at 7 pm and the gal that answered definitely needs some customer service refresher courses. Not only was she rude, she blamed us for her having the wrong number and then hung up. This was after she didn’t answer the phone from my husbands cell phone so he called on mine and she answered right away. We are here 24 hours later and have yet to hear another word from them. Of course we found someone else to take our money. Never ever again will we call them no matter where we live. They think they are too big for their britches as the saying goes.

The technician was right on time, but didn't really offer anything else aside from that. Came in and inspected the two drains. Looked at the storm drain (standing water was higher than normal, but I didn't know this at the time, and wasn't informed either) and stuck a broom stick inside and, not exaggerating here, one second later, immediately said it's busted and has grass and clay at the bottom of the drain and most likely needs to be completely replaced. Took a total of maybe five minutes from entering the house to leaving and getting a quote for the replacement job. Quote was $5,250 btw. Luckily the travel fee was waived or I would have paid for absolutely nothing. I called Motor City Plumbing the next day and they evaluated way more thoroughly with snakes and cameras and concluded it was just clogged and needed a cleaning. Storm drain water went down as well and went back to its normal level. The tech even ran gallons of water into the floor drain that was causing the small flood in the basement and it never overflowed. It was recently tested again with the rain we just had, and no backup in the basement. So, I essentially almost got scammed for $5,250.

Definitely should have reviewed THESE comments before booking the job. Nutshell: missing professionalism, complete disrespect for time, ineffective communication and all-around poor customer service. Making a customer wait 6 hours (instead of the 4) without communicating and, then showing up unable to do the work because the part(s) weren’t purchased is WILD. But, apparently not as wild as not being able to complete the job on the reschedule date due to a tool breaking and then having to turn a 1-day job into a 3-day one. Inexcusable. Avoid this company at all costs.

I would definitely NOT recommend this company. On the plus side they did come out quickly, but on the flip side they walked away from the job when they could not guarantee that that it would be fixed completely. Why would anyone pay for something unless an actual issue was resolved? The technician couldn't articulate why it wouldn't go back to the way it was. I wasn't asking for a miracle, just a guarantee it would be the way it had been for 50+ years. I guess they are used to customers that don't mind if they do a half-baked job. Not to mention that the price was outrageous. Go anywhere else.

Very un professional.. they came out on a Monday night to give an estimate which was extremely high and told me they would come back to do the work the next day between 3-7. They never showed and called me at 7:30 PM telling me the plumber got held up at his last job that I will be the first job the following morning at 8 AM so at 9 AM the next morning I still never heard something so I called the shop. They said his vehicle was in the shop getting repaired, he will still be on the way. They didn’t call unyil 3pm Letting me know that he would be on the way, so at that point I canceled ended up getting the job done for less than half the price

Don't trust this company. Only good thing is they come quickly, I think inorder to keep the job going away to some other company they keep come quickly. Lack of knowledge, I called in for my drain block they came and fixed it I had to pay 500 for that and the issue came back very next day they came back again and suggested to pressure clean the pipes and charged 900. Withn a week it happened again and this time they said its not because of the work they did but something wrong in floor drain and it's not covered in warranty. All these drains I am talking about are 1 feet away. I highly recommend not to trust them.

Plumbing service was great but water restoration department was 2 days in a row - no show, no call
